　　Deep purple乐队的出现，带动了整个重金属风潮，比较起另两个重金属元老团，Deep purple不像 Led zepplin 那样接近蓝调，也不像 Black sabbath 那样信奉黑暗主义，他们所发展的是由键盘手 John lord 所领导的古典式的编曲，与吉他英雄Ritchie Blackmore 所主持的高技术 Solo，他们的这种取向，影响了后世不知多少的吉他手，形成的吉他英雄主义，更是主宰了80年代正统的金属乐。
